The Tarkine wilderness is a unique national treasure and contains an amazing variety of spectacular landscape features, as well as one of the greatest concentrations of aboriginal sites found in Australia. The word 'Tarkine' comes from one of the North Western Aborigine bands. The 'Tarkiners' were a band who travelled seasonally throughout the region, hunting mutton birds, fur seals, wallabies and emus.

This biodiverse ecosystem contains ancient rainforests, beautiful river gorges, buttongrass mountain tops, flowering heathlands and long wild beaches.
